You just saved my life

“You know what? You just saved a life,” Mr. Dana exclaimed as he was walking away from our conversation. Such a deep statement! But, should I believe it?

Well...coming from a 70-something-years-old tattooed man who is an alcoholic and cocaine addict undergoing rehab, and who has also been taking medication due to his many years struggling with depression as well as suicidal thoughts (certainly more years than the ones I’ve been alive)—I do believe it.

Not only that! Mr. Dana is a WWII veteran, too. Back in the days, he participated in a rescue mission and saved the life of children and women who now owe their safety to his courage. How many times can we find such cases? And still, he struggles with taking his own life with every new dawn. In his own words, his life is “driven by fear.”

Funny story? I knew exactly what he was talking about. Having been molested as a child, then dragging myself into addictions and wanting to be done with everything just like him, it helped us connect in a level that would’ve not been possible with most people. But somehow, I was the one the Lord led to this man’s street that day as well as the one who fearfully walked to him that afternoon.

Truly, God will use us no matter how broken we are (Acts 13:9).

Despite our fears, will we let the Spirit continue to lead us today?
