Unselfishness
“I only have these coins, and this one that I’ve been saving for a long time,” Mrs Carmen* insisted.
It was an unusual interaction. I had already passed by her house. We already had a wonderful conversation about how tasty Mexican food is and how she’s fully aware of the difficulties that my summer job carries due to her daughter having been in similar situations.
Still, she came back to me after seeing me walking away from her neighbor’s house and brought me the last few coins she had. “Here...I know how it is. My daughter was in need and people helped her.” I couldn’t do anything more but thank her for her incredible kindness.
“It’s difficult, you know?”, we continued as tears filled her eyes and her heaviness turned more and more evident. A thought came to mind and I grabbed Peace out of my bag—“Please, take this. It’ll help you go through these times.”
She gave me a smile back, we prayed and she accepted my hug. Not only that. Before I left, she even offered me her house if I ever am back in town and need somewhere to stay.
Truly! There is no limits for a kind heart even with a stranger you just met.
What unselfish deed are you going to do today?
