Choices
"Do not be afraid, because I've redeemed you. I've called you by name; you are mine.” (Isa. 43:1-4)
We’re coming to the end of the USA suicide prevention month. If you know me, you’ll know that it’s a topic close to my heart simply because I’ve lived through it only by the grace of God. In fact, I still do since anxiety and depression are closely related to it.
It’s been five months of my latest in-and-out journey into deep waters (if you’ve ever cried in the shower or every night before sleep, you’ll know what I’m talking about). But the beauty of it all is that there’s always a way out. There are anchors that stay in place no matter how turbulent the storm may be. Like giant rocks coming out of a deep-blue ocean, unmovable.
Personally, I’m working on my top anchor being the Word of God. As a fairly new born-again-Christian, I’m serious about getting to know who Jesus really is, and consequently, developing a close relationship with Him. So, this is when things like this happen—it’s 3am and I’m reading Isaiah 43. In this chapter, the Lord says that no matter how big your fear is, how deep the water runs or how intense the fire burns, He’s still FOR you. He’s redeemed you. He’s given up entire nations just to have you...because you’re precious and He loves you.
But, will I embrace that as the one thing that truly defines me? Speaking of identity, a friend of mine told me—“power of choice is powerful.” Meaning, identity is “choice” at its core. Therefore, it’s up to each one of us to choose what defines us whether it’s depression, blood family, or God.
Will we choose Jesus again today?
