Home?

“For I desire steadfast love and not sacrifice, the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.” (Hosea 6:6, ESV)

What makes a home be "home"?...No, really! Is it the architecture of the building you live in that makes it so inviting? Is it the way you organize the elements inside it? Is it the schedule you set around everything in it? Is it its safety and comfort? Or is there something else?

Now, let's talk heaven-bound: what is it about heaven that makes it so attractive to you? Is it the streets of gold? Is it the animals and ever-living plants? Is it the presence of the angelic beings? Is it the reunion with your loved ones or the possibility to find people you always wanted to meet? Is it your very own golden crown? Or is there something else?

I have a phrase that I always repeat: "home is where your heart is," and what it simply means is that—no matter where you are, your sweetest thoughts, your prayers, your utmost good desires as well as a loyal, unbreakable and invisible bound will always be directed towards what you call "home." This reminds me to John 17:3 where it says, "And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent." If you are going to call heaven your home, it's not going to be because every incredible detail about it. Yes, those things will play a part in it, but everything will always boil down to "to know God, and Jesus Christ His son." The original Greek word for “know” means “to get a knowledge, to perceive, to understand, to become acquainted with.” To sum up, it’s about having a personal, intimate and intentional relationship with them. THAT will be our eternal "home."

The same happens with our earthly experience: it all starts with the people closest to your heart...the ones that you know and they know you back, regardless distances or any other impediments. No wonder the Lord didn’t accept the self-righteousness and empty sacrifices of the Israelites. Instead, He invited them and still invites us to "be still and know that He is God."

Are you getting to know Him deeper? How can you love those closest to your heart better today?
