Money has no value

Jesus looked at him and loved him. Then he told him, "You're missing one thing. Go and sell everything you own, give the money to the destitute, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come back and follow me.” (Mark 10:21)

If there is one important lesson that this man taught me, that one lesson is—“money has no value.” Yes! You’ve read well. Money has no value (contextually speaking, of course!) In the light of what matters the most, wealth and worldly possessions will never stand a chance; and this is exactly what this man understood earlier in his life.

Being the son of the man behind the Batchelor’s Empire back in the days, he refused to pursue his father’s steps and chose to live a simpler life: a life of self-sacrifice (just as Jesus pointed out to the rich young man)

This really caught my attention. How is it that someone who has everything can trade it for hardship instead? Simple—they know that “at the end of the day,” even more, “at the end of our life”, the scale will always move towards the side of the time we spent with family, with friends, with people; the sleepless nights taking care of the sick, the prayers we said for loved ones, the minutes we offered as listening ears, the hugs we gave to the hurting... in summary, the way we shared Jesus’ love with the world. Yes! Money is necessary and it’s a great means. But, honestly though, what could have more value than all that?

What side of your scale is the heaviest today?
